With its fascinating mountains as well as the Lake Schliersee and Lake Tegernsee the Miesbach region offers a lot of recreational things to do. Hiking, horse riding, the high ropes course in Bayrischzell or golfing are just a few activities that are possible besides enjoying the nature. The excellent preconditions for sport activities reflect themselves in the numerous events which are run in the district. For example the Hexal Alpen Triathlon takes place every year in Schliersee, in 2009 there was the mountain bike world championship and in 2010 the best german sailors will meet up at the Tegernsee for the BMW Sailing Cup.
Additionally Miesbach offers a wide variety in the cultural field. The Markus Wasmeier Wintersport- und Bauernhofmuseum in Schliersee shows the rural life in the 18th century. In Rottach-Egern there is once a year the Oleg Kagan Musikfest with top-class soloists, ensembles and young artists. Friends of blasmusik get their money’s worth at the Tag der Blasmusik in Gmund.
As everywhere in the south of Bavaria tradition is a big thing. Traditional costume societies and shooting clubs are important institutions in the Miesbach communities.
